What's on my iPhone - ColorStroke

ColorStroke video maker is a fun little app that lets you transform videos into black and white or sepia, but with leaving a selected color or two in place.  In the short example below I have the before video with full color, followed by the video after processing.

Not only did I strip the color leaving the red/orange, but I used ColorStroke's speed up feature which can add a bit of whimsy to your video.   There are about 9 sound clips of music to add to your accelerated vidoe.  I think you can slow it down too.

ColorStroke is created by MacPhun who also make Perfect Photo, FX Photo Studio, ArtPuzzle, Ultimate Camera and a whole bunch of other apps I'm still going to get my fingers on one day.

What's on My Iphone: A Whole Lot!!!

SlowmoCam, ReverseCam, iTimeLapse, ReelDirector to the rescue for this little video.

With my iPhone 4 propped up in a wine glass, I photographed myself dismantling a puzzle using iTimeLapse set to about one image per 6 seconds. Then I used ReverseCam to change the direction of the video so it appears that I am brilliantly assembling the puzzle.

SlowmoCam helped me to slow down the action of the video and ReeelDirector let me add credits and titles. It's a whole lot of fun.

Here is another without the Slowmo or Reeldirector:

Juliana of Norwich

Another report of ecstatic visions, similar to those of Hildegard von Bingem come from the English mystic, Juliana of Norwich. After being nearly forgotten for 600 years, her insights and gentle wisdom have now found their way into contemporary spiritual thinking.

In a medieval church which emphasized God's condemning wrath, Juliana wrote, (try reading these words aloud for the full impact) 'There is no wrath in God….It is the most impossible thing that can be that God would be angry, for wrath and friendship are two opposites.'

Equally relevant to the 21st century is her insight into the feminine element in God. 'As truly as God is our Father,' Julian wrote, 'so truly God is our Mother.'

She would often pray in silence and was given to visions that produced in her insights that went against the norm of the time.

Here is a link to the preview of Margarethe von Trotta's movie, "Vision from the LIfe of Hildegard Von Bingam" about Hildegard's life.

Like Hildegard, Juliana had to be brave to own what she was experiencing. After one vision on may 13, 1373 she wrote these lines “All will be well; and all will be well; and all manner of thing will be well.”

Road Trip

A road trip and an iphone!  Ah, heaven.  Oh, and a few apps too.  More on-phone video editing apps are available now making it possible to edit and upload a short video along with transitions and titles.

ReelDirector from nexvio I think was the first to provide real video editing to the iPhone and is compatible with iPad and supports HD output.

Stung

I had my first ever bee sting running around Spring Lake and had a moment of panic because of the allergic reactions I've had to other things.  But other than the swelling and ache, and the embarrasment from screaming like,er.. well. it drew attention, other than that, I'm 100% fine.  It has caused me to think about a recent TV show I saw about the disappearance of bees in the US and now studies in other countries are showing the same things.

Bees in freefall as study shows sharp US decline

Disease and low genetic diversity might have caused US bumblebee decline over the past few decades, say scientists

Bee Buzz

A prime suspect in bee colony collapse — the mystery that threatens a third of our food supply — is neocontonoid pesticides.

Bayer's clothianidin (brand name Poncho) — which is excreted in pollen — is particularly suspect, and beekeepers and environmentalists recently called on the EPA to pull the pesticide from the market.
The groups based their request on a leaked EPA memo [pdf], which questioned the validity of the study Bayer used to obtain approval of the pesticide.

Advertising at the Airport

I was sitting at the airport in Burbank waiting for my delayed flight back home. Around me was a family with two young-uns.  Everyone was pretty good-natured about the delay.  TV kept the adults on one side of the waiting area entertained with almost-too-loud audio while the children created games and messed around.  Then the definitely-too-loud audio on the adult station public TV out of reach of dabbling watchers blared louder its (in-between urgent news) even more urgent advertisements.

They do pump up the volume on ads, don't they?

And the ad was for erectile dysfunction and explained that sometimes men of a certain age fail to get adequate erections for sexual intercourse. The louder-now ad successfully caught the attention of anyone within twenty nautical miles, including the young-uns, one of whom started to form the question to her mom, "What is erect..."

Bright blushing Mom drew the girl in close, trying to avoid decades of therapy I'm guessing, trying not to shush her, trying not to blush about her blushing, trying, trying, trying, while that ad blared and blared, reminding everyone that firm erections at a moment's notice are now available to everyone.

Everybody looked somewhere else.

I wondered about age-appropriate advertising in public areas.  Is there such a thing?
